Epidemiology of Malaria Parasite and Intestinal Helminths among Children Attending Specialist Hospital and Maryam Abacha Women and Children Hospital in Sokoto Metropolis

Background: Co-infection of Malaria parasite and intestinal helminths is a serious global problem with increasing morbidity mortality rate especially in the developing countries it occurs among all age groups gender. Despite fact that this disease affects groups, frequency severity are most common children less than 15 years due to their undeveloped immunity coupled frequent exposure predisposing factors.
 Aims: This research aimed determine co-infection attending some selected hospitals during course study.
 Study Design: was cross sectional, descriptive Place Duration Study: The study conducted (1 years) Specialist hospital Maryam Abacha Women Children’s Sokoto metropolis, from May 2020 October 2020.
 Methodology: A total 152 stool blood samples were collected. Parasitological examination carried out on using microscopy following formal ether concentration methods while malaria parasites determined rapid diagnostic test (RDT).
 Results: Findings revealed 58 (38.2%) positive for 11 (7.2%) helminths. encountered A. lumbricoides prevalence 2.6%, T. trichiuria 2.0% followed by D. latum E. vermicularis 1.3% each. In study, higher infection recorded males (39.3%) lower seen females (36.5%). There no statistical significance between gender (X2= 0.319, P-value= 0.572). group 11-15 had highest (42.9%), least (33.3%) 1-5 years. 1.073, 0.585). For helminth infection, showed 9.0% female counterparts 4.8%. But not significant ( X2 = 1.337, P- value 0.720). overall only one sample found have which gave 1 (0.7%).
 Conclusion: collected 38.2% 7.2% only. so far 0.7% multiple any throughout research.
